Frequently Asked Questions At Radiant Community Arts

Feb 21/2025

We’re newly renamed Radiant Community arts after being a part of Oregon Supported Living Program for nearly 30 years. People are often curious about what we do and what offer, so we’re a list of commonly asked questions and our answers. Please let us know if you have additional questions or would like more information about a certain aspect of our arts and culture programs. You can reach us via email at artsandculture@radarts.org or call the studio at 54-636-3119.

Who can take art classes at Radiant Community Arts?

Anyone who is 18 years or older can take an art class with us, regardless of ability or skill level. We have students who are in college and need a place to make art, retirees who are looking for more social time, people recovering form injuries or stroke, and people who identify as having a disability. We do not ask about ability or health information when you come to the center, and we do not require you to have support from an agency to come.

What kind of art can I make at the arts center?

We offer a variety of classes, but we always have Open Studio available during our terms. Open Studio allows participants to work on individual projects with guidance and encouragement from staff. Painting and drawing are the most popular mediums, but we also have oven baked clay, printmaking supplies, collage and mixed media materials, paper mache, watercolor, fabric, sewing machines, yarn and wool for needlefelting, and more. If we don’t have supplies you need, we may be able to acquire it!

When are your classes?

We offer classes on a quarterly basis for eight or ten week terms. They are offered during our arts center hours, Tuesday through Friday between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm. You can register for classes anytime from when the registration date opens until the second week of classes. Winter term begins in January, Spring term in April, Summer term in July, and Fall Term in October. Join our email list or check our class page on our website for more specific dates and to find out when registration opens.

Why do you only have classes during the day?

Currently that is what our staffing budget allows. However, we do try to expand our hours through our individual events and workshops, such as Open Mic Night, Tiny Art Parties, or our annual wreath making classes. We also often have activities during the First Friday Artwalk, which happens from 5:30-8:00pm the first Friday of the month. Watch our social media or sign up for email alerts to find out about our art workshops and community events on evenings and weekends. I’m an artist.

Can I teach a class?

Teachers in our space need to have the right tools in their skillset to teach. We ask anyone teaching a class to first become a volunteer to see if there is a right fit for the space. Our art instructors need to be able to stay calm under stress, teach adaptive techniques, and adjust their teaching style to any ability. If you are interested in teaching with us, please email our studio manager Kailey at kruiz@radiant.org and let her know what you are interested in teaching and your experience.

Do you take art supplies donations?

We do take donations, we are always looking for frames, canvases, and acrylic paint. Our monthly newsletter will have a list of specific things we are looking for. However, it is best to call and ask first, as we have limited storage space and not always able to take extra supplies.

Can I volunteer?

Yes! You can volunteer. We do require a background check for volunteers to help keep our participants safe. Volunteers support classes, help keep the art studio clean, work in our gallery, or help us update communications or our database. We also always need help to hang flyers for our events around town. Can Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) attend class? Yes, DSPs can attend class. However, if DSPs want to take the class, they have to register themselves and pay tuition. DSPs are there to support the participants and help them make art.
